I had recently been hired by a web design company to be a moderator of a chat that was advertised by google and was available over the net. This idea of web chat was designed to make the customers feel more safe and secure as they would be talking to a real person rather than a machine.

Google had hired us as part of a "News over the net" programme, which was designed to inform their customers that they could come to our chat and talk about various issues to do with their recently purchased products, or even to give us compliments about our services.

My first day as a moderator went well. google was paying me £10 an hour basically just to sit, be a moderator in this chat, and wait for people to come from all over the net and ask questions. It wasn't a thrilling job, but I was so excited about the rate of pay. I even got to work at home, which gave me time to spend with my kids. If nobody was on the chat, I could get a few minutes to myself, maybe watch some television or get something to eat, because I would be informed if somebody was trying to get into the chat.

It was a very relaxed job, too. If anybody was getting too disruptive in the chat, I could just kick or ban them. And also, it had an added bonus of being its own little community, too, where people could meet up and have a chat from the comfort of their own homes.

There was this one person, though, that did become a bother to me. Their name was Red. At first, red seemed like a nice chap, being very easy to get along with, never disruptive. However, after about a few months, he started getting very weird, acting all strange and even perverse at times. He would ask for photographs and I would refuse. It went so far that I was considering calling the police on him. What was even weirder was that I was a male, and he had only recently told me he was gay. So I decided to leave my job.
