Though I used to be into web development, I wouldn't say I keep up wit

Though I used to be into web development, I wouldn't say I keep up with the latest technology. I'm a bit stubborn like that. I like to see how things roll out before I dip my toe in. Other times, I'm just not that interested. When everyone was going crazy about the iPhone and Wii, I was curled up comfortably somewhere with a cup of cocoa, watching TV, fleetingly wondering why people were willing to queue up for miles to grab an iPhone.I think I must have been one of the last people in the universe and Mars to sign up to broadband. My internet connection was via dial-up for the loooongest time. I knew dial-up had definitely gone out of fashion when I called my broadband provider at the time to upgrade my Internet Connection to broadband - they sounded a bit surprised that I was still on a dial-up connection. They didn't go "ha, ha, ha - get with the real world, sistah", but I could hear the surprise in their voice.
I was actually quite proud that I'd waited it out that long. Not sure why.
My first Broadband Provider was Virgin and it was fab. I couldn't believe how fast pages loaded up. I was like a child with a new toy. Also, it was actually cheaper for me to go on broadband than stay on the dial-up package I was on. I saved myself about £4 a month at the time.I had a nightmare time with another broadband provider - Talk Talk. I made the BIG mistake of moving over from Virgin to Talk Talk last year. They were offering this really good deal. I don't know what came over me, but I took it. Let's just say, things didn't go too well. They messed around with my dad's account too, to which he swiftly moved back to BT.I'm now with Tiscali and so far, so good - not perfect - but not bad at all. I'd love to go back to Virgin when my contract runs out, though. When I left Talk Talk, I wanted to move back to Virgin, but they were having a major system's upgrade at the time and it would have taken them weeks to reconnect me. Having a fast internet connection is great, but it also increases exposure to people who have nothing useful to do with their time. The viruses their idle but brilliant minds create can be malicious and persistent. I'm starting to wise up to internet security, at least where my computer's concerned. After a particularly harsh virus attack on my computer, I was forced to learn more about Internet Security in 3 days than I'd learnt in 3 years. In a way, I'm thankful for the experience for teaching me a lesson or two - it forced me to get better virus protection as well as other internet security measures I otherwise wouldn't have taken before.
